Founded in 1923 as an artisan workshop for woodworking, Calligaris has followed a long journey in order to become an elaborate industrial company.
Accessibility, functionality, sophisticated design and high quality of materials are the reasons why today Calligaris products are recognized and distributed successfully in Italy and around the world. And they furnish, as well as many private homes, also larger areas such as restaurants, bars, fitness centres, museums, hotels and congress centres.
In particular, the growing importance of the contract projects has led the group to create an internal structure dedicated exclusively to the sector.
In 2008 Calligaris Contract was born, a natural progression of the company activity. To this day, Calligaris Contract has carried out important projects all over the world. There is a wide range of products including seats, tables, furnishing accessories, furniture, upholstered furniture, beds, decorative accessories and lamps.
All our products are strictly certified in terms of safety, quality and origin of materials. Calligaris is one of the first Italian companies in this sector to have obtained the certification for quality systems ISO 9001 in 1997. Products certified FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) are made with wood coming from controlled forest areas.
CONTRACT 2012 NEWS
Many collections of tables, seats, lamps and furnishing accessories recall contemporary conviviality to promote the concept of Italian style in the application of B2B use or contract like some of the products developed and launched for the 2012 Salone del Mobile: BLOOM, LINK and SKIN chairs, MANTA armchair, HERON and ACACIA tables, AREA T coffee table and ALLURE lamp. Functional and versatile products, made with high quality materials and carefully tested for intensive use, in perfect compliance for fitting public spaces.
BLOOM is a comfortable polycarbonate tub chair with a wrap-around design. The version with wooden base and white or transparent shell has an elegant and simple style. The version with coloured shell (opaque or transparent) and coated metal base has an ironic and fun look.
LINK is a funky stackable chair inspired by a classic design but redesigned by Archirivolto in an ironic pop style. It has a coated metal frame – available in white, black, mustard yellow, dove grey and red – and a plastic woven seat in a two-tone pattern. Comfortable, practical and attractive this chair is designed for young and informal environments.
SKIN has an extremely delicate, simple and minimalist design and features a white or coloured polypropylene or liquid wood* monoblock. Stackable and highly versatile, it is also suitable for outdoor use.
HERON is a fixed table with a clean and rigorous design, featuring slim top and legs. The metal frame and polyurethane top are wrapped in a epoxy-powder coated sheet metal, shaped along the edges and with a matt finish. Available in three different sizes and finishes, it is particularly suitable as a desk or study table.
ACACIA is a fixed table designed by Marcello Ziliani. The glass top (120 cm in diameter) is supported by a coated metal base – available in white, black and dove grey – which ironically recalls the branches of a trunk. The top – which comes in transparent, acid-etched and smoke grey – is fixed to the structure by heat sealed steel flanges.
AREA T is a solid and stable coffee table designed by Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere. The cast iron base with special textured coating makes AREA T ideal for outdoor use. The melamine-faced or laminate round top is available in two sizes: 60 cm with 2.5 cm thick top and 65 cm with 4 cm thick top. The colours available are black, white and orange. It is possible to choose between 12 colours on request.
CONTRACT PRODUCTS
Calligaris' new products will complete and match with the already rich Calligaris catalogue for the Italian and foreign contract market.
Designed in 2011 by Mr. Smith Studio – CREAM has a classic linear design, ironically recalling a 1950s style. The wooden frame contrasts with the seat and the backrest in Restilon®** available in white, dove grey, mustard yellow, red and the new Sky blue colours. The CREAM family also consists of a stool with a seat height of 65 cm and two extendable tables (square and rectangular).
Designed in 2011 by Mr. Smith Studio – BASIL is a stackable chair with a soft, sinuous and funny design featuring an ergonomic, wrap-around Restilon® shell, which comes in various colours. The base comes in wood or metal, chrome-plated, coloured like the shell or in satin-finished steel. In this case the chair is also suitable for outdoor use. BASIL is also available with sled and star based, with or without castors - there are three BASIL stools: one height-adjustable with gas lift mechanism, counter and bar height stools.
Defined by its modern simplicity, the BOHEME chair is clean and timeless, designed in 2011 by the Sergio M. Mian project. The extremely slender frame of the chair is made of matt-coated metal. The seat and backrest, made with precise lines, are covered in regenerated leather which comes, as the stitching, in the same colour as the frame – white, black, dove grey.
Amongst the products dedicated to the outdoor, CROSSOVER is certainly one of the most appealing. A stool/coffee table made of recyclable plastic moulded into a cube shape, 44cm wide. It is brightly coloured, lightweight, easy to carry and waterproof, qualities which make this product perfect for the informal furnishing of gardens and poolside areas.
* Liquid wood: a composite biomaterial – polymer + wood – recyclable and produced with raw materials which are easily available and renewable. The most important characteristic of this material – as well as its biocompatibility— is its production technology. The liquid wood is moulded like a normal thermoplastic polymer allowing for great versatility and high performance in terms of durability, resistance and flexibility. It is mainly composed of lignin and cellulose, which together with hemicellulose make up the stem cells of plants. The chair SKIN is Calligaris’s first product made by moulding liquid wood.
**Restilon® - structural thermoplastic composite polymer that creates a rigid outer “skin” and a more flexible inner core containing 35% recycled material compatible with the production cycle. Highly polished surface, UV and scratch-resistant.

Calligaris is one of the first companies in the furniture industry to have certified its entire organizational and productive systems with the ISO 9001 seal.
Specialized institute (CATAS) carries out tests on products in order to assess the resistance of their frames to prolonged pressure, shock, static weights to satisfy the highest quality standards required by the Contract sector.
CATAS carries out product research and testing in collaboration with international organizations and institutes and is a member of the European Association of Research Institutes for Furniture.
